I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone involved in the Junior Feis last week. My daughters enjoyed the whole week, learnt a lot, and made some great new friends. Thanks to all who helped look after and teach them. It's a fantastic opportunity for children!

Fèis Rois Oigridh - The Junior Fèis

Guitar at the Junior FèisBeginners are very welcome at all of our events, and those who already play an instrument or sing will also find the experience very rewarding. We aim to cater for all abilities, right up to accomplished musicians and singers. You don’t need to be able to read music and you don’t need to have any previous knowledge of traditional music to enjoy a Fèis. Workshops are taught by ear with participants learning tunes and songs a phrase at a time. Tutors will give you the sheet music to take home.

Fèis Rois events are fun and friendly. We want to help you improve your playing, grow in confidence and learn more about the Gaelic language and culture.

All of our tutors are experienced, professional musicians, skilled in working with young people. We also have a pool of supervisors and volunteers who help our events run smoothly. Children are supervised at all times and we work in accordance with Child Protection and Health & Safety Guidelines. Our contracted staff and volunteers have all completed Disclosure Scotland applications. If you would like to see copies of our policies or know more about volunteering please contact us.

Teaching whistle at the Junior FèisFèis Rois Oigridh is a lively five-day residential event for young people who are in P4 – S1. This event takes place in the first week of the Easter holidays and we can offer places to approximately 120 young people.

Young people choose three different classes. You have two hours of your first choice class and one hour of your second and third choice classes each day. Classes on offer include various musical instruments, Gaelic song, Highland dancing, drama, art and more! All participants take part in Gaelic language activities each morning, including the whole Fèis song. Every year, we ask the song tutor to choose a song for everyone to learn together – this is the finale of the participants’ concert.

We offer classes at the following levels:

  • CB = complete beginner – a chance to try something for the first time
  • IB = improving beginner - you have probably been playing for 6 months to a year
  • LI = lower intermediate – you have probably been playing for over a year or less than a year
  • UI = upper intermediate
  • I = intermediate (for any level of intermediate player)
  • A = advanced

In addition to daily tuition from 9.30am – 4.00pm, there is a packed programme of fun evening activities, including:

Monday nightSession – an opportunity to get to know the others staying in your accommodation through an informal music making session
Tuesday nightTutor Concert – be inspired by performances from your tutors.
Wednesday nightActivity night – choose from a range of exciting new activities, including sports, horror make-up, dance and more!
