As part of the Highland Youth Arts Hub, Fèis Rois is working with partners from High Life Highland, Eden Court and the University of Edinburgh to offer an exciting new multimedia project led by Artistic Director, Duncan Chisholm in 2015. The project is open to young people aged 14 – 25. The closing date for applications is Friday 13th February. Read more about the project.

We are very excited to release a new Fèis Rois CD on Saturday 2nd May 2015! In 2014, Fèis Rois commissioned accordionist, John Somerville to write a suite of new music inspired by the voyage of The Hector, a ship that sailed from Ullapool to Nova Scotia in 1773. Thanks to generous support from Ullapool Harbour Trust and Arts & Business Scotland, this music has now been recorded by a fabulous line-up of Fèis Rois alumni. Buy your copy of the album for £12 in the shop.

Lifelong Learning Classes Update! Adult Classes in Dingwall, Ullapool and Cromarty will begin again on the week beginning 13th January 2014. Online booking should be available from our website on the week beginning 16th December 2013. We have had a great second term and there are still places available for new participants so please share this information with anyone you think might be interested in joining us. Next week beginning 28th October the Lifelong Learning Classes begin again and we are looking forward to chasing away the winter blues with some heart warming tunes and a wee bit of social time too. You are welcome to join us at any stage if you are just beginning on fiddle or at the session stage where we have two classes one for Improvers and a more sedate class for those who are only just beginning to play with other folk.We also offer classes in mixed melody, accordion, mandolin and guitar so have a look and see if there's anything that suits you. It's a 6 week block finishing on the week ending 6th December. Our Lifelong Learning classes are up and running this term with some new participants joining us in a number of classes. Numbers in our Beginners Fiddle, Improvers Mandolin and Beginning to Play Together classes have fallen a wee bit this term so we have decided to discontinue these classes until Christmas. Last year we had a large number of folks contact us in the New Year about classes. As this is such a busy time of year for everyone but you think that you might like some time in the New Year to learn to play an instrument please let us know. It might be that there are other folk in the area who have made the same decision and we may be able to revive one or both classes. In the meantime if you are still interested in playing with other like minded folk we have our Mixed Melody Instrument class in Cromarty and our session in Tulloch Castle.

Teenage Sessions The National Hotel Due to a clash with another Highland music event, we have had to cancel our February Teenage Session. Looking forward to seeing you all for the next on 28th March!

Fèis Rois, along with 12 partner organisations, has been awarded £400,000 to establish a new Youth Arts Hub in the Highlands. Fèis Rois is delighted to be working in partnership with An Talla Solais, The Macphail Centre, Ullapool Book Festival and Ullapool Museum. Some news on this year's Autumn 2014 Children's Classes too!Our Avoch classes are on the move and will now take place weekly in Fortrose Academy so please let your friends that haven’t been able to make it through to Avoch know that they can join us in Fortrose from Tuesday 26th August.

After a very successful pilot in Tarradale we are going to continue with classes in Beginner Guitar from 3:45 – 4:30 and Improving Beginner Guitar from 4:45 – 5:30. Additionally we’d love to run a Beginner Fiddle class too but can only do so if we have sufficient numbers. Some news for our Lifelong Learning Classes starting Autumn 2014.We have a lovely Mixed Melody Class running in Cromarty but this year we are going to move to Fortrose. Hopefully more of you will be able to join us there.

For all you guitar players we are going to run our guitar class again on a Tuesday in Dingwall Community Centre. If you have any ideas for our classes that you’d like to discuss then please contact Allison. We’d be delighted to hear from you.

Fèis Rois is delighted to be working in partnership with An Comunn Gàidhealach on a number of exciting events taking place when The Royal National Mòd comes to Inverness from 10th – 17th October. Look out for Fèis Rois musicians performing at Culloden Battlefield, Fort George and Urquhart Castle. There will be a special Fèis Rois showcase concert at Eden Court Theatre on Tuesday 14th October featuring The Ceilidh Trail, Ali Levack (pipes), Lauren MacColl (fiddle) and Rachel Newton’s fantastic Celtic Connections commission, Changeling. Fèis Rois nan Oileanach Gàidhlig is now open for bookings. Fluent Gaelic speaking students from universities and colleges across Scotland have the opportunity to come together for a weekend of music, song and dance at Badaguish Outdoor Centre near Aviemore from 24 – 26 October 2014. The weekend costs £50 inclusive of all meals, accommodation and tuition. Find out more.

Fèis Rois is offering a paid creative internship opportunity for a young person aged 18 – 30 and resident in Scotland. The intern will co-ordinate the 2015 Fèis Rois Ceilidh Trail. To be eligible to apply, you must hold a SCQF qualification at level 8 or above, as well as a relevant arts or creative industries qualification. You should be unemployed; either in the first 12 months of a benefit claim (pre-Work Programme) or 2 years+ (post-Work Programme) or unemployed and not claiming benefits (but must make a claim for benefits in order to apply for an internship opportunity). Fèis Rois has a special concert taking place in Ullapool on Saturday 4th July! Read more. Supported by the Highland Youth Arts Hub, six young musicians have had the opportunity to work with Artistic Director, Duncan Chisholm to explore the rich heritage of their local communities and to use this as a stimulus to create contemporary new work. The Kiltearn Fiddlers celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2015. They have released a new CD to mark the occasion. Buy your copy in the shop. The Kiltearn Fiddlers are an award winning performance group that emerged from a weekly fiddle class run by Fèis Rois.

Fèis Rois is delighted to welcome the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club as they celebrate their 20th anniversary with a 2-week tour of Scotland. The MSCF will be in Ross-Shire and Inverness from 18th – 20th September. Be sure to catch their performances in Ullapool on 19th September and Inverness on Sunday 20th September! We are currently taking bookings for Fèis Rois nan Deuagirean, our week-long residential music course open to young people of secondary school age. The course takes place in Ullapool from 19th – 23rd October 2015. We will accept bookings up to 5pm on Wednesday 14th October. Weekly Classes Update

It has been such a busy term with lots happening and our "not quite the end of term" concert in Fortrose last Tuesday night to a packed Community Theatre in Fortrose Academy. This Thursday sees the last of our classes till the new term starts after the Easter holidays. Have a look at the classes pages for all dates. In the Summer term we are starting a brand new Beginning To Play Together session in Dingwall Community Centre from 8 - 9:30pm led by Amy Henderson and beginning on 19th April and then every Tuesday for a total of 8 weeks. We have also had some interest in a similar session in Ullapool but need at least 6 folks to get it started. Again this session will be led by Amy Henderson and at the moment is timetabled for Mondays beginning 11th April running from 4:30 - 5:15pm in Ullapool Primary School. Fèis Rois is recruiting! We are looking for a graduate to join our small staff team in Dingwall as our new Cultural Tourism Development Officer. This is a fixed term one year post offered as part of the ScotGrad Programme and part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund. Fèis Rois is looking to appoint a trainee musician aged 18 – 25 to work on an innovative new project in partnership with HMP Inverness between April 2017 and March 2018. Read more.

The Stewart Society Benevolent fund, with Fèis Rois, is once again running its biannual competition open to all over 14 to compose a short piece on the fiddle in 2017. The winner will receive a cash prize and an invite to the Stewart Highland Games to receive their prize. The competition opens on 10th of January 2017 and closes on the 30th May 2017.
