Enthusiastic Fèis Rois participants
This challenging musical explosion has resulted in creative and resilient responses. The sheer number of young people coming through the Fèis throughout the Highlands has resulted in entire communities holding workshops and ceilidhs. It is a very exciting time for traditional music.

Weekly Classes (Adults)

Dates and Fees

Term 1 starts week beginning 22 August 2016 and runs for 6 weeks to the week ending 7 October 2016. (Please note there will be no classes on the week beginning 19 September 2016)

Fee for term 1: £48 for all classess

Term 2 starts week beginning 24 October 2016 and runs for 6 weeks to the week ending 2 December 2016

Fee for term 2: £48 all classes

Term 3 starts week beginning 9 January 2017 and runs for 10 weeks to the week ending 24 March 2017(Please note there will be no classes on the week beginning 20 February 2017)

Fee for term 3: £80 for all classes

Term 4 Ullapool starts week beginning 24 April 2017 and runs for 8 weeks to the week ending 30 June 2017 (Please note there will be no classes on the week beginning 1 May or 5 June). All other classes run from week beginning 24 April 2017 for 8 weeks to week ending 16 June 2017

Fee for term 4: £64 for all classes

NB The Ullapool Slow Session is not a class but a self-led session. Check with the Ceilidh Place that it is on before turning up!

Monday (Ullapool)

  • Mixed Instrument Slow Session 7.00pm – 9.00pm, at The Ceilidh Place, Ullapool. * Self led, no fee
  • Improvers Fiddle with Anne Wood, 4:30pm - 5:15pm in Ullapool Primary School

Tuesday (Dingwall)

  • Improver Group Work with Amy Henderson 8.00pm – 9.30pm, at Dingwall Community Centre (No class fee, pay £5/£3 concession each time you attend)

Wednesday (Dingwall)

  • Intermediate Mandolin with Bob Massie, 7.00pm – 8.00pm at Tulloch Castle Hotel, Dingwall
  • Intermediate Session (mixed instrument), with Bob Massie, 8.00pm – 10.00pm at Tulloch Castle Hotel, Dingwall (No class fee. Pay £5/£3 concession each time you attend.)

Thursday (Dingwall)

  • Improver Fiddle, with Gillian Stevenson, 6.30pm -7.30pm at Dingwall Community Centre
  • Intermediate Fiddle with Gillian Stevenson, 7.30pm – 8.30pm at Dingwall Community Centre

Thursday (Fortrose)

  • Mixed Melody Instrument class for Improver/Intermediate players with Kenny Fraser, 7pm – 8pm at The Black Isle Leisure Centre, Fortrose. Come along and develop your traditional music repertoire. Exploring tunes, but not accompaniment.

Class Levels

  • Level 1: Complete Beginner - You will be completely new to this subject
  • Level 2: Improving Beginner - You will have been playing for 6 – 12 months and have a basic understanding of technique and a few tunes under your belt
  • Level 3: Lower Intermediate/Intermediate - You will have been playing for 1 – 2 years and know a good number of tunes, songs, dances or steps
  • Level 4: Upper Intermediate+/Advanced - You will have been playing for a minimum of 2 years and have a good grasp of your instrument. You will know different kinds of tunes, dances, songs or steps. You will be starting to use gracenotes
